Yoga Bytes - August 10, 2007The Palm TreeOne of the biggest stumbling blocks to successfully executing balance poses is chronic weakness in the ankles and feet. This is true for most of us who donÕt spend a lot of time ice skating. In fact, todayÕs pose is helpful to those who would like to skate more but donÕt because of weak ankles. Begin by standing with your feet snug up to one another. Pick something to focus your eyes on that wonÕt move. As you inhale lift your arms out to the side and straight up over your head (with the palms of your hands facing away from one another). At the same time, rise up on your toes as high as possible. Hold this position as long as possible. The more often you do this, the stronger your feet and ankles will become. Other balance poses will become easier and the improved concentration that is one of the prime benefits of balance poses will be ever more accessible.
